How To Get Beach Waves in Short Hair With a Flat Iron

Step 1: Prep Your Hair

Before you start to curl your hair, you need to make sure it’s prepped correctly so that the curls hold. Start by washing your hair with a volumizing shampoo and conditioner. This will help to add body and texture to your hair. After you’ve washed your hair, apply a heat protectant, like a mousse or serum. This will help to protect your hair from the heat of your flat iron.

Once your hair is prepped, make sure to blow dry it with a round brush. This will help to create the volume you need for beachy waves. As you blow dry, focus on keeping your roots lifted to create even more volume. If you have difficulty doing this, you can use a teasing comb to lift your roots.

Step 2: Separate Your Hair

Once your hair is dried and prepped, you can begin to curl it. Start by separating your hair into sections. The size of the sections will depend on the length of your hair. For short hair, you can separate it into four sections: one on each side of your head, and two in the back. Use a hair clip to secure each section away from the others.

Step 3: Curl Your Hair

Now that your hair is separated, you can start to curl it. Take one of the sections in the back, and place it in your flat iron. Start at the bottom of the section and slowly pull the iron up to the roots. Make sure to keep the iron relatively close to the roots, but not too close. This will help to create more volume in your curls.

As you go, make sure to twist your wrist slightly when you get to the end of the section. This will help to create more of a wave than a curl. Continue this process until all four sections of your hair are curled.

Step 4: Lock in the Curls

Once all the sections are curled, you need to lock in the curls. You can do this by spraying your hair with a light-hold hairspray. Make sure you spray all the sections to ensure that the curls will stay in place.

Step 5: Style Your Hair

The last step is to tousle your hair to give it a more beachy look. To do this, use your fingers to gently separate the curls and add texture. You can also use a texturizing spray to help give your hair more body. Once you’re finished, your hair should have a loose, beachy wave that looks like you spent the day at the beach.
