How To Wash Curly Hair Wig
Step 1: Gather Your Supplies
The supplies you will need to wash your curly hair wig are few, but essential. You will need a mild shampoo, a wide-tooth comb, a towel, and a spray bottle. Choose a shampoo specifically formulated for wigs, as regular shampoos can be too harsh and strip the wig of its natural oils, leaving it dry and brittle. Fill your spray bottle with lukewarm water, as hot water can damage the fibers of your wig. Finally, use a wide-tooth comb to gently comb through the wig before and after washing, as a regular brush can tangle and damage your wig.
Step 2: Shampoo the Wig
Start by filling a sink or bowl with lukewarm water. Add a few drops of shampoo to the water and mix it together until the shampoo is dissolved. Place your wig into the water and gently swish it around for a few minutes. Do not rub or scrub the wig, as this can damage the fibers. Once you have swished the wig for a few minutes, drain the sink or bowl and rinse the wig with lukewarm water from your spray bottle. You can also rinse the wig in a sink or bowl of lukewarm water. Make sure to rinse the wig until all of the shampoo is gone, as any residual shampoo can cause irritation.
Step 3: Condition the Wig
Once you have rinsed away the shampoo, it’s time to condition the wig. Use a leave-in conditioner specifically formulated for wigs, as this will help to restore the natural oils in your wig and keep it looking soft and shiny. Apply the leave-in conditioner to the wig and let it sit for a few minutes. You can also use a deep conditioning treatment, which will help to further nourish and restore your wig.
Step 4: Dry the Wig
Once you have conditioned the wig, it’s time to dry it. Place the wig onto a towel and gently blot it to remove excess water. Do not rub or wring the wig, as this can damage the fibers. Once the wig is lightly damp, place it on a wig stand or mannequin head and allow it to air dry. Do not use a blow dryer or other heat styling tools, as this can damage the fibers of the wig.
Step 5: Style the Wig
Once the wig is completely dry, you can style it as desired. If you have a curly wig, you can use a wide-tooth comb to gently comb through the curls and reshape them. You can also use a curling iron or other heat styling tools to reshape the wig, but be sure to use the lowest heat setting possible to avoid damaging the fibers. Once you have styled the wig, you can use a light-hold hairspray to help keep the curls in place.
