Preparing The Hair

If you have thick hair, you should use a high heat setting on your curling iron to make sure it gets hot enough for the style you want. Before you begin to curl your hair, make sure that it is clean and free of any styling product. If you have any product in your hair, it can cause the curls to become limp or frizzy. To prevent this, you should use a clarifying shampoo and conditioner to remove all of the product from your hair. After shampooing and conditioning, make sure to use a heat protectant spray to protect your hair from the heat of the curling iron.

Sectioning The Hair

Once you have prepared your hair, you will want to section it off. Start by making a horizontal parting across your forehead and then make a vertical parting starting at your crown and going down the back of your head. Separate the top section of your hair from the bottom section and clip the two sections out of the way. Take the bottom section of your hair and separate it into two parts. Clip one of the sections out of the way and start working on the other section.

Curling The Hair

Take a small section of hair and wrap it around the barrel of the curling iron. Make sure to leave the ends of your hair out so that you can get the wavy look. Hold the curling iron in place for a few seconds and then release the hair from the barrel. Repeat this process until you have curled all of the hair in the section. Once you have finished curling the first section, move onto the second section and repeat the same process.

Brushing Out The Curls

Once you have finished curling all of your hair, you will want to brush out the curls. This will help to create a softer, more natural wave in your hair. Use a wide-tooth comb to brush through the curls and to separate them. This will help to create more of a beachy wave. Once you have finished brushing out the curls, you can use a light hairspray to set the style in place.

Finishing Touches

Once you have finished brushing out your hair and spraying it with hairspray, you can add a few finishing touches. If you want a more defined wave, you can use a boar bristle brush to gently brush through the curls. This will help to give the wave a more polished look. You can also use a light shine serum to give your hair a glossy finish. This will help to make your wavy hair look shiny and healthy.
