How To Treat Fine Curly Hair
Wash the Curls
Fine curly hair can be tricky to manage and keep in good shape. It can be prone to Frizz, knots and tangles, and can be difficult to style. Taking the time to properly wash your fine curly hair can help keep it looking healthy and manageable. Start by using a shampoo specifically designed for curly hair. Choose a product that is gentle and free from sulfates as these can strip the natural oils from the hair. When shampooing, focus on massaging the scalp to remove any dirt or product build-up and use the pads of your fingers to gently move the shampoo through the strands of hair. When rinsing, use cool water as this will help seal the cuticles of the hair and make it less likely to become frizzy.
Condition the Hair
The next step is to condition the hair. This is an important step to help keep the hair nourished and hydrated. Choose a conditioner that is either specifically designed for curly hair or is free from sulfates. Work the conditioner into your hair, starting at the ends and moving up towards the scalp. Leave the conditioner in the hair for several minutes to let it work its magic and then rinse with cool water.
Apply a Leave-In Conditioner
After washing and conditioning your hair, you should apply a leave-in conditioner. A leave-in conditioner is a great way to keep your curls hydrated and to protect them from heat damage and frizz. Choose a product that is lightweight and free from oils and silicone as these can weigh down the fine hair. Work the product through the hair as you would with a regular conditioner, focusing on the ends and avoiding the scalp.
Air Dry or Use a Diffuser
After applying the leave-in conditioner, you can either air dry the hair or use a diffuser to dry the curls. If you are air drying, you should use a t-shirt or microfiber towel to gently blot the hair to remove any excess moisture. When using a diffuser, be sure to use the low heat setting and keep the diffuser moving to avoid over-drying the hair.
Style the Hair as Desired
Once the hair is dry, you can style it as desired. If you want to keep your curls looking defined, you can use a styling cream or mousse and brush the product through the curls. You can also use a curling wand or flat iron to add more definition to the curls. When styling the hair, be sure to use a heat protectant spray to prevent heat damage.
